Natalie Shemwell Crowned Miss Todd County

TCCHS senior Natalie Shemwell was crowned Miss Todd County at the Third Annual Todd County Pageant Saturday, April 27.

Shemwell has solely participated in Todd County’s competitions and first got involved three years ago when the county started the event back up in 2021. She’s progressed each year since her first, winning second runner-up last year and being crowned winner this year.

She says she originally starting participating in pageants because her friends were involved and she knew it would be a fun atmosphere and great opportunity. This year’s competition meant a little more to her because of the $1,000 scholarship prize and how she could use it for her education. Shemwell plans to utilize her scholarship to attend Murray State University in the fall and major in communications, specifically community outreach. In preparation for her community outreach studies, she will be job shadowing Tiffany Groves at the Todd County Chamber of Commerce next week.

As for her experience in this year’s competition, Shemwell, sponsored by Latham Funeral Home, says the pageant had a very supportive atmosphere, even behind-the-scenes, and says she loved being there with the other eight Miss Todd County contestants.

One of her favorite aspects of this year’s pageant was the question portion — this is something the competition hasn’t always had and says it was a great experience, if not a little nerve-racking.

She also loved getting to wear her senior prom dress again.

Shemwell is unsure as to whether she will continue with pageants in the future. She adds she may be interested in looking into Miss Murray State University and says if it’s anything like Todd County’s competition, she will definitely consider it.

Shemwell says she is honored to represent Todd County and hold the title of Miss Todd County this year and is very excited to see who she will be able to pass off the crown to next year.
