Cassidy Brown is a 2012 graduate of Todd County Central High School.
She values most from her time in school Todd Central’s Ag program, which Brown says not only helped her step out of her comfort zone but helped open pathways for her that she wasn’t aware of before. She says the program gave her the opportunity to explore dual credit classes, learn her niche for floral design, allowed her to serve as an FFA officer both her junior and senior years and pushed her to pursue post secondary education.
Brown remembers Todd Central having an atmosphere that made everyone feel like they were part of a community. She says the educators as well as her peers enjoyed their time there and she made lifelong, irreplaceable friendships at the school.
She advises current students to live in the moment and not to sweat the small stuff. She says situations that may seem significant now will become vague memories in the future.
To current educators, she says to learn their students. Brown says people often have no idea what goes on in a student’s life when they aren’t at school or what they bring in with them every day. She adds sometimes a teacher is the only caring adult in their life and they depend on teachers to show them there is more to life than what is in those four walls at home.
After graduating, Brown attended Murray State University where she majored in elementary and special education before earning a master’s degree in education with a concentration in advanced behavior management from Western Kentucky University.
Currently, she teaches special education at Indian Hills Elementary School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, but notes agriculture will always hold a special place in her heart since Todd Central’s Ag program helped to shape her future.
Brown was born in Hopkinsville and currently lives there today.
