Todd County Fiscal Court members will decide to fix the county radio system and whether to apply for grant funding that could help cover the cost of a new tornado siren at their next meeting.

During Friday’s meeting, Emergency Manager Daniel Smith provided an update on repairs needed for the Todd County Nexedge Radio System.

He added while there were no major issues with the system if the problems are not addressed, it could lead to emergency radio failures in the future.

Additionally, the Railroad Road site needs to decrease its power to meet federal regulations. Smith said repairs to both towers are estimated to cost around $8,000 and after talking with County Treasurer Misty Carlock, the county has the funds to cover the costs.
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield advised magistrates to look over the complete information provided by Smith before a decision is made.

In other news, Smith told the group that the county has a chance to apply for grant funding through Kentucky Emergency Management. The funds can be used to cover public safety improvements/additions, like the tornado siren installed at the Todd County Dispatch Center.

Smith said if the county would like to apply they must approve the application at the next meeting. Due to a conflict in Judge Mansfield’s schedule, the next fiscal court meeting will be Wednesday morning, April 24, at 9:00, in the fiscal courtroom.
