Morgan (McIntosh) Spurlin is a 2011 graduate of Todd County Central High School.
She values most from her time at Todd Central the education she received there. Spurlin says she truly believes the educators in the school system fully prepared her for post-secondary success. She adds Todd County is so fortunate to have such amazing, knowledgeable and caring educators.
She remembers her time in high school as a fun and enjoyable experience, and treasures the memory of “small-town life.” She also has fond memories of the fun times in sports, FFA and the other extracurriculars she was involved in.
Spurlin advises current Todd Central students to have fun in high school as it goes by fast, but also to take their studies seriously — doing their best in high school will set them up for success after graduation. She says college isn’t for everyone and they don’t have to get a degree to be successful. If students know they want to go to college but don’t know exactly what they want to study, Spurlin recommends taking some general classes at a community college. She adds it is much cheaper than a four-year university.
Another piece of advice she shares is not to take a “break” if they decide they want to pursue a degree. She hears students talk about taking some time off to figure out what they want to do, but notes getting out of the “school mentality” and discipline is something that is hard to get back into, so keep pushing.
To current educators, Spurlin offers her encouragement. She says to take pride in all they do and know they are appreciated. She adds educators are so important and she appreciates each and every one that had a part in guiding her to where she is today.
After graduating, Spurlin attended Hopkinsville Community College and earned an associate’s degree in science before earning her nursing degree from Austin Peay State University.
Out of all the roles in her nursing career, her time as a labor and delivery nurse is the most significant to her. Spurlin says seeing a baby take its first breath and helping parents bring their children into the world is a true blessing and the biggest joy she has received has been helping friends from Todd County as her patients.
Spurlin was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and now lives in Trenton, Kentucky with her husband Josh and two-year-old son, Hudson.
