Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Paula Lamar

Paula Malette Martin Lamar is a 1985 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

She values most from her time in school the close friendships she made and still has with her classmates and even a few of the staff. Lamar says she will always cherish the memories of being in the band, track, and cheer. Also, her first love will always be a lasting bittersweet high school memory of hers and she says she cherishes it dearly to this very day.

Lamar will always treasure the memory of being homecoming queen in her sophomore year of high school. She also fondly remembers being the first cheerleader to start back handsprings and her winning track team that went to state in the mile relay. She looks back on the ball games and pep rallies, as well as English and math classes, and remembers it was such a nice feeling to have teachers who cared.

She advises current Todd Central students to absorb every second and not to skip school. Also, to enjoy their time because it goes by fast and they will miss it. Students should respect their teachers, enjoy their friends, and be kind to everyone. Lamar still remembers the people who weren’t nice to her and advises students not to be that kind of memory to someone.

To current educators, she says to watch for signs of neglect and poverty in their students, reach out, and look for signs of depression.

After graduating, she attended Western Kentucky University and earned a bachelor’s degree in learning behavior disorders as well as a reading specialist endorsement. She also earned a master’s in elementary education, a certificate in early childhood special education leadership instruction, and a Rank 1 in elementary school administration.

After teaching for 28 years, she retired and transitioned to the healthcare field, where she is a caretaker for the elderly and disabled.

Lamar was born in Christian County and lives in Owensboro, Kentucky. She has two children, Tyler Lamar and Alexa Lamar Osborne.
