Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Scott Marshall

Scott Marshall is a 1977 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

He values the education he received and his lifelong friendships most from his time at Todd Central. He remembers how well everyone meshed together and supported classmates, athletes and band members, and adds the school had great football and basketball teams while he attended.

After graduating, Marshall worked at Madisonville’s Regional Medical Center in the paramedic program and spent 37 years as an EMT. He was also a paramedic and Captain in Todd County for five years and in Montgomery County, Tennessee for 32 years. Additionally, he served 25 years as the Mayor of Guthrie from 1993 – 2018.

To current students, Marshall says to be strong, patient, flexible and choose a career they enjoy so it’s not just a job. He adds to be humble and kind and to help those in need without expecting anything in return. Follow the golden rule and everything else will fall into place — and never give up.

To current educators, he says today’s students are tomorrow’s future, so to prepare them as they would if they were building a new house, with a solid foundation and the tools to succeed.

Marshall was born in Clarksville, Tennessee and makes him home in Guthrie. He is married to LaVonne Marshall and has four children, Richard Poor, John Clay Poor, Britt Poor and Austin Marshall.
