The City of Elkton is wanting to move forward on a seven-mile sewer line project to better serve customers north of the city limits.

Mayor Arthur Green told Your WEKT News Edge the conversations behind this project have been going on for a while.

Many may ask why the city feels the responsibility to take on this project, Green said the same thing already occurred when South Todd Elementary School opened its doors in 1988. He hopes funding can be found for the project once engineering work is complete and a plan is drafted.

Green said the project intends to help with the growth of Todd County.

As for the city’s sewer treatment facility, Green said some work was recently completed on it.

As it stands, Green added the city’s sewer treatment facility can handle its current load.

Green said because of old sewer lines, infiltration has become a recent concern, but with the replacement of old lines in recent years, the problem has become less dire.
