Todd County Central High School Alumni Spotlight: Frances Traughber

Frances Street Traughber is a 1975 graduate of Todd County Central High School.

After graduating, she earned a bachelor’s in elementary education with a concentration in child psychology as well as a master’s in elementary education. She then taught elementary school before retiring and becoming a church children’s and youth leader, which she still serves as.

Traughber says she values friendship, marching band and working on the school yearbook the most from Todd Central. She treasures the memory of her time in band in high school, from playing in the pep band at pep rallies and ball games to bus trips for marching band competitions. She says George Mills made everything fun and encouraged the band to be proud of their accomplishments. Traughber adds teachers that made students feel good about themselves is something she remembers most from Todd Central.

To current students, Traughber says to be involved in extracurricular activities, do the school work and be kind to others. To current educators, she says the way they can make a student feel will stay with them longer than any subject taught – students can tell if teachers care about them.

Traughber was born in Russellville, Kentucky but now lives in Elkton. She has five children, Laurie Traughber Costello, Rachel Traughber Suiter, Andrew Traughber, Julia Traughber and Johnny Street.
