Cecelia Sims Hostilo attended Todd County Central High School from 1971-1975.
After high school, she earned a bachelor’s degree in vocational home economics and master’s in secondary special education from Murray State University.
During her career, Hostilo taught home economics for 13 years, secondary special education for 13 years, worked at the Pennyroyal Mental Health Developmentally Delayed Preschool and Infant Stimulation Services for two years and the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service office for 13 and a half years.
She values most from Todd Central the friends she made in choir and band. She also appreciates being challenged to think in Art Douglas’ social studies classes. She says she took as many of his classes as possible.
Hostilo fondly remembers the football and basketball games she got to attend as a member of the band, as well as the leadership opportunities with FHA and 4-H. Another memory she treasures is when the Rebels went to state semifinals in Glasgow in fall of 1973. She says she froze and the team lost, but she had a blast.
To current students, Hostilo says to take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you, make all kinds of friends and expand your horizons. To current educators, she says that facts are great, but the ability to problem solve and think critically is vital – teaching should point to those skills.
Hostilo is originally from Madisonville, Kentucky but now lives in Lynn Grove. She has two children, Elizabeth Carolynn Hostilo Rowe and Rebecca Anne Hostilo.
