South Todd Elementary School recently received the Purple Star Award Designation from the Kentucky Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities.
The Purple Star Program is part of the department’s strategy to “strengthen the resiliency of Kentucky’s military-connected youth and ensure that their social, emotional and academic needs are met.”
The award adds South Todd to a growing list of Purple Star schools in Kentucky. According to a 2018 survey through Kentucky Incentives for Prevention, there are around 50,000 military-connected youth in the Commonwealth.
The designation recognizes schools that are dedicated to serving military-connected students and families. A school must designate at least one staff member to be a military youth liaison, host at least one military recognition event per year and post military resources on the school website.
